About the Role
Under the direct supervision of the Team Leader Coach and Assistant Team Leader (ATL), this role ensures the efficient and cost-effective operation and stewardship of the Bargain Barn. Responsibilities include customer service, cash register sales, facility security and maintenance, and maximizing profitability while increasing training opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Provide open and honest communication to ensure the safety of team members, donors, and customers.
- Uphold Goodwill’s drug-free workplace and maintain a positive work environment aligned with Goodwill’s Core Values and Guiding Principles.
- Adhere to Goodwill’s zero tolerance for harassment, substance abuse, workplace violence, unreported medical incidents, and theft.
- Greet customers promptly, courteously, and professionally, both in person and via phone, aiming for 100% customer delight.
- Operate the POS system accurately and efficiently, ensuring correct pricing and information codes on merchandise.
- Maintain cleanliness of front doors, counters, glass, and the front of the store; return shopping carts and baskets to designated areas.
- Assist with promotions, including customer information, postings, and special sign displays.
- Ensure accurate processing of all items and timely movement of saleable merchandise to the sales floor.
- Support stocking, maintenance, and rotation of merchandise on the sales floor and cash/wrap areas.
- Place apparel, wares, shoes, accessories, and other items on the sales floor in the correct location and rotate merchandise as needed.
- Assist with quality and safety control assurance, using safe work procedures and personal protective equipment.
- Report equipment defects, incidents, injuries, or damage promptly to the immediate supervisor.
- Move material handling equipment safely in accordance with organizational and safety policies.
- Adhere to all Goodwill policies and procedures, including security measures related to theft, pilferage, and cash handling.
- Perform duties in alignment with Goodwill’s Guiding Principles, including providing world-class customer service, maintaining a clean and organized store, and processing donations within 24 hours.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with team leadership and members.
- Assist in training new cashiers and attend in-service or related training as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Team Leader Coach, including participation in activities outside of Goodwill.
Requirements
- Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments.
- Ability to see details at close range and guide the parking of vehicles.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with team leadership, members, customers, and clients.
- Maintain a positive, friendly attitude and a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
- Strong listening skills to understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Skill in operation monitoring to ensure machines are working properly.
- Ability to work under general supervision.
- Prior experience in a retail environment is preferred.
- Six months of previous cashiering experience.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand, bend, and reach regularly.
- Able to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move up to 40 pounds independently; assistance required for weights over 40 pounds.

- Safety – GGC Safety metric score.
- Attendance – Works scheduled shifts as assigned, notifies leadership as needed with no recurring issues.
- Quality of Work – Includes attitude, sense of urgency, image, productivity, and individual safety performance.
- Customer Service – Adherence to the 10-second rule for greeting internal and external customers, maintaining a smile, process integrity, and feedback.
- Transaction Value (Location vs. previous year).
- Change round-up as a percentage of transactions (30% and higher than the previous year).
- Accuracy of register input.
- Location Ownership – Proactive approach to adding value (image, workstation, teamwork, productivity, communication).
- Work Quantity – Keeps the "River" flowing, consistently meets production count goals, and ensures the floor and back room are full and fresh as needed.
