Barbacks work behind the bar, efficiently and in alignment with Gin & Luck standards of working to code. They assist in all aspects of front-of-house operations, including running food and drink, clearing tables, and greeting guests. Barbacks exemplify core values, connecting with guests professionally to ensure excellence in service.
Responsibilities
- Greet guests warmly, genuinely, and with a smile & eye contact
- Provide an exceptional guest experience from arrival to departure
- Serve alcoholic beverages only to guests over 21-years of age; check IDs at every table without exception
- Control the amount of alcohol served to prevent over-intoxication; involve management with any concerns
- Have complete knowledge of food and beverage items and preparations
- Know and use service guidelines outlined in the service manual
- Have comprehensive knowledge of modern classic and popular cocktails
- Ensure the bar is fully stocked on arrival and continuously restocked throughout the shift
- Maintain a neat and properly organized mise en place
- Perform table/bar maintenance, including crumbing, keeping waters full, clearing & resetting serving ware
- Know table numbers and position numbers in all sections
- Communicate with hosts about bar flow and service
- Treat the Bar Lab with respect, ensuring it is clean and organized
- Clean and polish glassware and silverware
- Ensure mise trays are consistently stocked
- Use tact and good judgment when handling guest challenges; respond to patron needs with patience and courtesy
- Recognize intoxicated patrons and seek management assistance with concerns
- Report all guest complaints to management immediately; follow five steps for navigating complaints
- Review internal communication via Slack before each shift
- Approach each shift with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Check in with staff working in your space on arrival; assist with duties as needed
- Complete other duties as assigned by management
- Ask for help when needed
- Check in with bartenders regularly
- Attend mandatory quarterly staff meetings
- Work with Head Bartender to improve standard operating procedures
- Update knowledge and skills through staff training opportunities
- Promote a safe and clean environment for coworkers and guests
- Assist in training new hires by guiding them through training trails and teaching Gin & Luck’s expectations
- Build relationships with regular guests and maintain good relations with the neighborhood and industry community
- Act professionally and represent Gin & Luck graciously in all settings
- Follow all rules, policies, procedures, and conditions of employment
Requirements
- Previous experience in a bar or hospitality setting
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to create a welcoming atmosphere
- Attention to detail and consistency in beverage quality and presentation
- Outstanding communication skills for effective interaction with customers and team members
- Flexibility in working hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Patience, adaptability, and self-motivation
- High ethics, strong work ethic, and a great sense of humor
Qualifications (Preferred)
- 1-2 years of Barback experience in a high-volume establishment
- Skills, knowledge, and personality to provide a memorable experience for patrons

Pay
$17.28/hour plus a point percentage of the full house tip pool based on hours worked per shift.
