What does a Banquet Sous Chef do?

  • Lead the preparation and execution of exceptional cuisine for banquets, weddings, conventions, VIP events, and other large-scale functions while maintaining the highest quality standards.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop the banquet culinary team, ensuring efficient kitchen operations and a collaborative, high-performing work environment.
  • Coordinate food production with banquet schedules and event timelines, ensuring seamless execution and an outstanding guest experience for every event.
  • Maintain food safety, sanitation, and operational standards while identifying opportunities to improve processes, quality, and overall event execution.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in high-volume banquet, catering, or event culinary operations, with a passion for mentoring and developing kitchen team members while continuing to grow professionally.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive culinary experience, including experience preparing and executing large-scale banquet or catering events.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to direct kitchen operations, delegate responsibilities, and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret production schedules, banquet event orders (BEOs), menus, recipes, and operational policies to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events simultaneously while maintaining exceptional food quality, consistency, and presentation.
  • A collaborative leadership style and passion for creating memorable guest experiences, with the flexibility to adapt to a variety of cuisines, special events, and changing business needs.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, and frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds.

Education

An Associate's degree in a related field or culinary degree is preferred; however, an equivalent combination of education and hands-on culinary leadership experience will also be considered.

Pay

Starting Salary Range: $62,353.20+ yearly
