About the Venue

The McAllen Convention Center goes beyond conventions and meetings to host the most important community events. The 18.5-acre complex hosts over 500 events each year and has an average attendance of 400,000 attendees annually. The McAllen Convention Center was designed as a multi-purpose event center that caters to anything from conventions to concerts to board room meetings. The Convention Center has become a popular concert venue and creates a picture-perfect backdrop for local weddings. The McAllen Convention Center features a 60,000 sq. ft. column-free exhibit hall, a grand ballroom, two boardrooms, and up to 16 breakout rooms for meetings and smaller events.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand Banquet Event Orders.
  • Provide fine dining level food and beverage service to guests for all events consistent with OVG standards of service.
  • Initiate and maintain friendly and professional contact with guests, ensuring that all needs are anticipated and met.
  • Maintain an inventory for both food and beverage stations.
  • Maintain all event areas and front-of-house staging areas in a tidy and organized manner.
  • Participate in both setup and cleanup of food and beverage service items.
  • Work independently during slower times.
  • Perform safe work by helping to provide a safe and clean work environment.
  • Collaborate closely with staff while also dealing often with patrons.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in events, banquets, or restaurants preferred.
  • Must have a Texas Food Handlers Certification.
  • Must be TABC Certified.
  • Ability to carry at least 8 entrees per tray.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and select holidays.
  • Must be detail-oriented to ensure that work is accurate and complete.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Must have a customer-focused, positive, and professional attitude.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Must be able to stand for extend periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects often.
  • Must be punctual with consistent attendance.
  • Must be able to respond to simple complaints or inquiries from customers, members of the business community, and/or regulatory agencies.

Pay

This position pays an hourly rate of $12.00 and is tip eligible.
