About the role
The Banquet Manager will oversee all aspects of the department, directing and implementing a service and management philosophy that emphasizes quality customer service. This role involves training employees, planning and assigning work, appraising performance, and addressing complaints or resolving problems. The position requires a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and varied shifts to meet business needs.
The Wellsworth Hotel in Southbridge, Massachusetts, blends historic charm with modern sophistication. This 203-room property offers 24,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting and event space, an IACC-accredited conference center, elegant accommodations, a full-service food and beverage operation, an indoor pool, and an extensive fitness center with racquetball and basketball courts.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with and completion of all daily operational procedures by the Banquet Department.
- Maintain food and beverage safety and quality based on hotel, Shaner, and franchise specifications.
- Establish, maintain, and train standards and procedures for operations and safe working conditions.
- Develop accurate and aggressive short- and long-range financial objectives for the Banquet Department consistent with property goals.
- Respond to and handle all guest-related issues pertaining to the department.
- Ensure communication with the General Manager, other Department Managers, Supervisors, and Staff.
- Manage all aspects of employee performance to ensure productivity and a quality work environment.
- Maintain and oversee the Banquet Department’s annual budget.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years of supervisory experience in banquet operations.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with guests, management, and co-workers.
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
- ServSafe and/or food safety training certification.
- Alcohol awareness training (such as TIPS).
- Familiarity with sales and marketing tools for banquets and BEOs.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Proficiency in mathematical calculations and use of measurement tools.
- Experience in preparing budgets and ensuring cost controls.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Knowledge of local activities and attractions appropriate for clientele.
