Principle Responsibilities and Position Purpose

The Banquet Cook will prepare food items by cutting, chopping, mixing, and preparing sauces. They will also cook food items by grilling, sautéing, and other cooking methods to specified recipes and standards. The Cook will maintain cleanliness and comply with food sanitation requirements by properly handling food and ensuring correct storage.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Taking directions from supervisor and retaining information received.
  • Preparing food including cleaning and cutting the ingredients, cooking main dishes, desserts, appetizers, and snacks.
  • Plate prepared foods based on senior chef’s guidance.
  • Working with banquet staff to ensure food is completed according to request and on time.
  • Ensure all equipment is kept in excellent working condition through personal inspection and by following the restaurant's preventative maintenance programs.
  • Washing and cleaning the kitchen and cooking equipment at the end of work shifts.
  • Understand and follow all regulations that pertain to health and safety.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Food and Beverage, Local and State Food Handling laws and procedures.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Must be a strong team player with a hospitality first mindset.
  • Desire to provide phenomenal guest experiences, a passion for quality, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to foster cooperation.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work with a team of culinary professionals.

Qualification Standards

  • Education: Preference for a previous cooking experience.
  • Experience/Licenses or Certificates: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a restaurant or related field as an asset.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Food Handlers Permit.

Work Environment

  • Standing, bending, stooping, and lifting weights up to and including 50lbs. may be required.
