Banquet Captain
About the Role
Westerfield Club in Tuscaloosa, AL is seeking a driven part-time Banquet Captain to create memorable member and guest experiences while coordinating banquet functions. Responsibilities
- Reviews assigned banquet staff functions and menus prior to scheduled events.
- Conducts pre-banquet meetings with staff to ensure appearance and hygiene standards, assign stations, and review banquet event orders.
- Ensures timely communication of changes and further instructions.
- Verifies availability of appropriate quantities of china, glassware, silverware, linens, and other items; secures requisitions for out-of-stock items.
- Checks room setup prior to events and meets with the Banquet Chef to confirm food quantities and timing.
- Ensures proper safe handling and storage of all equipment (e.g., china, glassware, silverware, linens, props).
- Conducts random audits during functions to evaluate food and service quality, including temperature, presentation, and availability.
- Identifies upsell opportunities during events.
- Regularly reviews the banquet schedule for changes, calendar updates, and special events.
- Incorporates safe work practices into daily performance.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; or three to six months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must meet state age requirements for handling alcoholic beverages.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
Physical Demands
- Frequently stands, walks, talks, hears, and uses hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Regularly reaches with hands and arms.
- Occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crawls, crouches, tastes, smells, and sits.
- Frequently lifts up to 25 pounds; occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
Qualifications
- ServSafe Certified Food Manager (Food & Alcohol) or TIPS equivalent.
- Ability to read and speak English (required for communicating with customers, co-workers, and understanding equipment manuals).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and POS systems.
