About the role
The Westin Westminster is seeking an experienced and service-driven Banquet Captain to lead and support our banquet team in executing flawless meetings, events, and social functions. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring that every event is set up, serviced, and broken down according to hotel and brand standards — all while delivering exceptional guest experiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead banquet servers and housemen during setup, service, and breakdown of events.
- Ensure event spaces are properly arranged according to Banquet Event Orders (BEOs).
- Communicate effectively with the Banquet Manager, Culinary, and Event Management teams to ensure accurate and timely service.
- Conduct pre-shift meetings to review event details, assignments, and service expectations.
- Supervise floor operations during events to ensure high-quality service and guest satisfaction.
- Anticipate and address guest needs promptly and professionally.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of all banquet areas and equipment.
- Complete event reports, side work, and closing checklists accurately.
- Train and coach banquet staff to maintain Westin service standards.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, alcohol service, and safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Previous banquet or catering leadership experience required (Marriott or upscale hotel experience preferred).
- Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent guest service and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift/carry up to 40 lbs for extended periods.
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- TIPS or ServSafe certification preferred.
