Banking Officer Trainee – Commercial Lending, Buffalo

About the role

The Banking Officer Trainee is responsible for developing and increasing knowledge and skills to originate, process, and service commercial and consumer loans and deposits by participating in a rotational training program through multiple business lines including but not limited to, underwriting, commercial lending, consumer lending, loan administration, loan quality review, credit risk review, and treasury management administration. Also responsible for developing and increasing knowledge and skills around all bank retail and treasury management products through a rotational training program including but not limited to shadowing and operating as: Teller, Universal Banker, and Treasury Management Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Completes the Standardized Underwriting Training.
• Establishes business relationships with prospective business and consumer customers, and cultivates these relationships to expand lending and depository opportunities.
• Learns how to detect potential problems and applies techniques of problem loan administration.
• Assists in daily management of a commercial loan portfolio, including, but not limited to, credit quality; compliance with the Bank’s policies and procedures, and applicable laws and regulations; and management of past due loan status.
• Develops as a relationship manager for assigned customers, ensuring customer satisfaction and the resolution of service problems for all bank products.
• Solicits the business of non-borrowing customers as well as loan customers.
• Maintains product knowledge to generate credit, deposit, and fee business.
• Participates in community involvement activities to enhance the Bank’s visibility, image, and reputation.
• Delivers the quality of service as defined by department standards.
• Leads and supervises various branch and department initiatives, as assigned by management.
• Learns all functions of retail banking, including teller and universal banker functions with an emphasis on product knowledge, audit responsibilities and a good working knowledge of retail policies and procedures.
• Learns all functions of Treasury Management, including product knowledge, audit responsibilities and a good working knowledge of treasury management policies and procedures.

Requirements

This position requires National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) registration under the terms of the S.A.F.E. Act of 2008. Maintains consistent compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requirements, banking regulations, and bank policies and procedures related to the position.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of related experience in a financial-services related business; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous experience including a combination of people management, project management and sales may also be considered.
• Preferred four-year college degree in Business with emphasis in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance; or other degreed program with minor in Business.

Skills

Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must be able to work flexible hours and travel as needed.

Pay

The hiring pay range for this position is commensurate with the level of relevant experience and education. This position may be eligible to receive an additional $2,080.00 per year if approved for the Spanish Communication Assistant Program.
