Band Director

About the role

The Band Director is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum, teaching and supervising children in groups and individually, and helping children grow intellectually, socially, and mentally. The teacher communicates regularly with parents about their child's progress.

Candidates will teach a range of band instruments to students at beginner to proficiency levels in a Kindergarten through Ninth grade independent school environment.

Responsibilities

• Teach band instruments to students from beginner to proficiency levels
• Conduct, rehearse, and support learning in small groups and full ensemble
• Collaborate across grade levels, divisions, and subject areas
• Integrate technology to meet the needs of a diverse classroom of learners
• Participate in the full breadth of independent school life, including teaching, coaching, advising, and boarding community activities
• Occasionally perform different duties during special events

Requirements

• Minimum B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited institution (music education or another relevant field required)
• Prior teaching experience (3-5 years preferred, but early-career applicants encouraged)
• Knowledge of the full range of band instruments
• Familiarity with an independent boarding school environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop collegial relationships
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and serving diverse communities with diplomacy and tact
• Positive attitude, sense of humor, and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Valid driver’s license

Skills & Knowledge

• Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal education guidelines
• Understanding of the developmental needs of primary and middle-level students
• Proficiency with technology, including Google Suite, and ability to integrate it into learning
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
• Ability to work independently on multiple projects under time constraints

Pay

$50,000 - $70,000, depending on experience and qualifications
