Band Academic Coordinator
Full-time, exempt professional staff position within the Department of Strategic Enrollment and Student Success.
About the role
The Band Academic Coordinator is housed within the Bronco One Stop and reports to the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Enrollment and Student Success. This role facilitates academic support for student band members through Bronco One Stop services and initiatives, working closely with multiple campus offices to address academic issues specific to student band members. The coordinator collaborates with retention counselors, academic advisors, faculty, band directors, disability support services, and academic support staff to enhance the academic success of student band members.
The Band Academic Coordinator organizes, implements, facilitates, oversees, and evaluates all aspects of Band Academic Support. This position may also include teaching up to two UNIV Seminar courses, depending on institutional need.
Responsibilities
- Provide academic support to student band members through advising, mentorship, and coordination of support services.
- Collaborate with band directors, faculty, academic advisors, and academic support offices to monitor and improve academic progress and eligibility.
- Organize and facilitate study halls, tutoring services, and academic workshops tailored to the schedules of student musicians.
- Track academic performance using university systems, analyze trends, and identify at-risk students for early intervention.
- Ensure compliance with academic policies, including graduation standards, GPA expectations, credit tracking, and eligibility for extracurricular participation.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA regulations in all academic tracking and reporting.
- Support students with IEPs and 504 plans by coordinating accommodations and academic interventions.
- Guide students in course selection, degree planning, time management, and personal accountability.
- Perform other duties and accept responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field.
- Knowledge of academic policies, student support services, and compliance practices (e.g., FERPA).
- Strong advising, mentorship, and communication skills.
- Ability to organize and manage time effectively while supporting a diverse caseload of students.
- Proficiency in data management, including monitoring academic performance and analyzing trends.
- Problem-solving skills to identify academic risks and implement effective interventions.
- Adaptability to adjust support strategies based on individual student needs.
- Attention to detail in academic tracking, eligibility standards, and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a college or university setting, particularly in academic advising or student support services.
- Experience supporting student success initiatives, retention, or academic intervention programs.
- Familiarity with curriculum planning, course scheduling, or program development.
- Experience with student data tracking and reporting.
- Background in mentoring and advising students.
- Demonstrated ability to improve student outcomes and engagement.
- Proficiency in student information systems and educational technology.
