Bakery Clerk

About the role

At Sprouts Farmers Market, the Bakery Clerk is responsible for preparing and packaging all baked goods, assisting the Bakery Manager in preparing, baking, packaging, pricing, and merchandising all baked goods, and providing a high level of customer service while ensuring that bakery items are properly prepared, packaged, and presented. The role also involves maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary bakery area and equipment, stocking and facing products, and ensuring pricing accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and package all baked goods
• Assist the Bakery Manager in preparing, baking, packaging, pricing, and merchandising all baked goods
• Provide a high level of customer service
• Maintain clean, safe, and sanitary bakery area and equipment, including cleaning shelves and products, keeping floors free of spills, removing hazardous debris, and sweeping
• Stock, face, and ensure pricing accuracy while examining the rotation of all bakery products and discarding outdated or spoiled items
• Receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent; 1–2 years of bakery experience or an acceptable combination of education and experience
• Dependable and reliable with the ability to work a flexible schedule that changes, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Outgoing, friendly behavior with a positive attitude and the ability to interact with customers
• Good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment
• Ability to answer phones and take special orders
• Ability to perform general housekeeping in the department, including cleaning and sanitizing work areas (tables, floor, walls, cases, cooler, freezer, etc.)
• Ability to operate and use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed; use knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products
• Ability to stand for up to 3 hours continuously, for a total of 8 hours per shift
• Ability to vertically transfer trays up to 5 lbs. from 7” to 64” for up to 10 hours, and vertically/horizontally transfer items up to 40 lbs. from 5” to 36”, for a distance up to 36 feet for up to 10 hours without mechanical assistance
• Adhere to all safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations while achieving and maintaining a Food Handlers permit

Pay

The pay range for this position is $17.40 – $22.60 per hour. Sprouts Farmers Market determines pay based on applicable experience and qualifications of the applicant.
