About the role

A Kroger Bakery Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while encouraging other associates to do the same. As a Bakery team member, you will establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return. You will assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitor all established quality assurance standards. Most importantly, you will demonstrate Kroger’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

• Prepare bakery items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
• Inform customers of bakery specials.
• Provide customers with fresh products they have ordered and ensure correct portion sizes to prevent shrink.
• Recommend bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
• Use all bakery equipment (refrigerators, freezers, ovens, etc.) according to company guidelines.
• Prepare foods according to food temperature logs and follow cooking/baking instructions.
• Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes using kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients.
• Check product quality to ensure freshness and review "sell by" dates, taking appropriate action.
• Properly use kitchen equipment such as stoves, computerized scales, fryers, steamers, and robot coupes.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Understand the store's layout to locate products when requested by customers.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to customer questions.
• Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Create an environment where customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
• Display a positive attitude and practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment.
• Notify management of customer or employee accidents, safety risks, or illegal activity (e.g., robbery, theft, fraud).
• Perform essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

• Outstanding customer service skills.
• Desire to gain an understanding of food production and basic cooking techniques.
• Effective communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
• Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
• Good basic math skills.
• Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.
