About the role

The Assistant Bakery Manager works closely with the bakery manager to plan, organize, lead, coordinate, and optimize the materials and human resources in the bakery department. This role functions as the department manager in the absence of the bakery manager. The ideal candidate must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and have successful experience in the bakery operation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, lead, coordinate, and optimize the materials and human resources in the bakery department.
  • Provide variety and high quality merchandise appealingly displayed to maximize sales and profits of the bakery department.
  • Function as the department manager in the absence of the bakery manager.
  • Manage the department's associate morale and customer service.
  • Order, receive, store, price, date, rotate, and stock product and prepare product for display and sale.
  • Resolve customer complaints to the full satisfaction of the customer.
  • Ensure the department is merchandised in accordance with the needs of the community.
  • Assist department manager in inventory, security, and expense control of the department.
  • Conduct weekly sales meetings with the bakery manager and associates to establish merchandising, sales, and profit objectives.
  • Proof dough products, bake breads, cookies, and other bakery products, and cook and prepare bakery products according to company guidelines.
  • Prepare special orders as requested by customers.
  • Offer product samples, answer product questions, and assist in finding or suggesting product selections.
  • Delegate and use initiative, ingenuity, and good judgment to act on opportunities and solve problems.
  • Maintain proper storage, limit shrink and damaged goods, and ensure the department achieves merchandising goals and standards.
  • Adhere to company standards of safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, and productivity.
  • Monitor cooler and display area temperatures to ensure product quality; report refrigeration failure immediately.
  • Clean sales and work areas, sweep clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards, and exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment.
  • Verify price checks for customers as needed.
  • Ensure all product labels, signs, and prices are aligned with product.
  • Ensure department associates adhere to company dress code standards.
  • Notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, or property defacement.
  • Clean walls, fans, and drains in bakery coolers, display cases, and work area.
  • Other duties assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful experience in the bakery operation (merchandising, ordering, inventorying, and pricing).
  • Complete training in the bakery operation.
  • Servsafe certification.
  • Ability to display initiative and work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, with the ability to follow instructions.
  • Able to work a schedule based on the business needs of the store location.
  • Authorized to work within the U.S.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively and conduct and facilitate department meetings.
  • Ability to ensure all new department associates receive proper review and indoctrination of job descriptions, goals, and objectives.
  • Ability to ensure fair and consistent treatment in administering discipline to promote high associate morale.
  • Ability to ensure department associates complete onboarding/e-learning and checklists within 30 days of hire/entering the department.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with company dress code standards.
  • Ability to notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, or property defacement.
  • Ability to clean walls, fans, and drains in bakery coolers, display cases, and work area.

Pay

The hiring range for this position is $19.40 - $25.20 per hour. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to education, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is determined based on the business needs of the store location. Shifts may vary and could include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
