Bagger

About the role

Covia is looking for a dynamic Bagger to join the Operations team at its Elco, IL location. The Bagger ensures the safe and productive operation of the plant packaging processes, operates equipment across multiple functional areas, backfills other operator positions as needed, and assists the maintenance crew.

Responsibilities

• Comply with applicable MSHA regulations and safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
• Share safety-related information with team members to prevent injury or illness.
• Operate equipment in a manner that minimizes risk, damage, and downtime.
• Adhere to site procedures and instructions from supervisors.
• Operate the paper bagging system, including feeding empty bags and pallets.
• Ensure the stretch wrapping system is supplied with fresh rolls of stretch wrap.
• Sample finished products according to quality control procedures.
• Monitor and adjust the weights of 50 lb. bags during filling.
• Assist with plant maintenance and housekeeping as required.
• Complete required paperwork accurately and professionally.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 2-3 years of experience in a plant or operational environment.
• Safety awareness and demonstrated commitment to identifying and managing risks.
• Good time-management skills and attention to detail.
• Dependability and ability to work within a team to meet targets.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively throughout the workday.
• Prior exposure to operational equipment in a plant setting.
• Demonstrated ability to operate mobile equipment.
• Computer program operation skills preferred.
