Backup and Storage Engineer
About the role
A Backup and Storage Engineer with expertise in planning, designing and implementing complex enterprise backup and storage recovery solutions using a variety of technologies across the Data Centers. The most critical tasks involve identifying and clearly defining the needs of the customer.
Responsibilities
- Create enterprise solutions for new and existing customers, and increase customer satisfaction by aligning critical business needs with evolving technology.
- Continuously review the environment and assess needs.
- Partner with the sales pursuit team for technical design and delivery of solutions to the customer executive team.
- Work with a broad range of enterprise products to meet customer needs, and evaluate these products to add and balance services.
- Design and implement TSM, Avamar, and Networker servers across sites, performing administrative tasks like backup management, capacity management, etc.
- Implement designed Networker data zones at multiple data centers, configure libraries and data domains for backups and restores.
- Migrate clients from old Networker data zones to new Networker data zones.
- Customize backup environments, manage number of groups, clients, backup schedules, and configure policy directives.
- Configure Data Domain to Networker for de-duplication using Boost protocol.
- Set up network environments using TCP/IP, NIS, NFS, DNS, SNMP, VSFTP, and DHCP.
- Build, install, configure brand new virtual and physical servers, test, and deploy RHEL 6 and 7, CentOS 6.4 servers to the network, including OS installation and configuration.
- Install, configure, and maintain VMware in an enterprise environment, and configure virtual machines on VMware hosts.
- Primarily coordinate with third-party teams (IBM, EMC, and Red Hat) globally, Delivery and Implementation Managers, and consultants in monitoring, identifying, and resolving client issues, requests, incidents, and change requests (RFCs) and problem tickets.
- Experience supporting heterogeneous environments with NetBackup, configuration & management of Virtual Tape Libraries, Enterprise to mid-level tape libraries, installing and configuring Avamar clients, SQL, and Oracle with DDBOOST.
- Monitor system performance, including virtual memory, swap space, disk utilization, and CPU utilization.
- Configure and maintain LVM on Linux servers with flexibility for data storage and migration.
- Consult with customers or other departments on project status, proposals, or technical issues, such as software system design or maintenance.
- Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan the installation of a new system or modification of an existing system.
- Conduct network vulnerability assessments using tools to evaluate attack vectors, identify system vulnerabilities, and develop remediation plans and security procedures.
- Upgrade backup agents and plugins on multiple backup clients to maintain support on all software.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications, Computer Science, or Electronics and Communication Engineering.
