Backstretch Security Officer

About the role

Provide for a secure work environment for all personnel in the Stable Area. Constantly be alert for any safety concerns that may jeopardize the wellbeing of any persons or animals on the property. Protect against any potential loss or damage. Requires vigilant observation, accurate reporting, adherence to all policy directives.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a conspicuous presence at controlled entry points and during routine patrols
• Manually monitor all activity in assigned area of responsibility, as well as the immediate surroundings
• Report incidents that are suspicious in nature
• Perform regular safety patrols throughout the entire Stable Area each shift and note any unusual incidents or hazards encountered and the actions taken to address or correct each incident
• Utilize the Security Vehicle and provide detailed foot patrol in an effort to ensure compliance with all Stable Area Rules, as well as to maintain a highly visible presence
• Constantly be alert for any condition that presents a safety hazard to persons or horses on property, or otherwise impedes the safe operation of all fire suppression systems available as well as the routine conduct of daily business operation
• Immediately abate any safety concerns discovered using any means necessary; correct conditions that can be personally addressed, instruct Trainers to correct conditions in their barns immediately, and bring HGMV-responsible issues to the attention of Facilities or other contracted service providers
• Document all incidents—routine (non-emergency) incidents on the Daily Activity Log, and more serious incidents in the form of an Incident Report
• Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
• Ability to read and communicate verbally in English; written communication skills in English may also be required
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance
• Ability to operate an adding machine and have basic computer skills
• Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
• Ability to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations
• Must possess a valid state issued driver's license and have acceptable driving history as determined by Penn National Gaming's auto insurance carrier
• Ability to work well under pressure and with little direct supervision
• Maintain a friendly, professional demeanor at all times
• Gain trust and be responsible with handling stressful situations and dealing with the general public
• Employ tact when dealing with difficult team members, guests or situations
• Ability to identify and quickly respond to potential problems, conflicts and to defend oneself and others in combative situations
• Ability to multi-task as required, covering a wide variety of different posts and working with all departments
• Ability to be flexible, adapt and adjust, as necessary
• Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations including ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 35 lbs., and the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces
• While performing duties, regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; frequently required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision
• Team Members must be drug free

Work environment

• Noise level is usually moderate
• All Team Members are under surveillance (and audio surveillance in limited areas); performance may be observed and recorded
• Employee could be exposed to an environment containing unrestricted second-hand tobacco smoke
