About the role

One of the leading affordable housing nonprofits in the area, Habitat Charlotte Region partners with hundreds of families each year through affordable homeownership, home preservation and financial literacy training. As a Backroom Supervisor in our ReStore, you’ll play an integral role in our vision of a world where everyone has a safe and affordable place to live.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all items are researched, accurately ticketed and safely moved to the sales floor in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with store leadership regarding the priority, timing, and placement of incoming donations/merchandise.
  • Work with donation drivers on loading and offloading placement of donations.
  • Guarantee safe and prompt handling of merchandise and donations according to processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in receiving items dropped off when assistance is needed on the receiving dock.
  • Provide supervision and maintain a safe, clean environment for employees, volunteers, and customers.
  • Engage and motivate staff and volunteers, ensuring outstanding customer service.
  • Demonstrate a positive and respectful attitude when interacting with employees, customers, donors, volunteers, and the public.
  • Document and conduct corrective action as needed.
  • Key‑carrying supervisor responsible for independently opening and closing the store and cash handling procedures.
  • Read, count, and accurately complete reports and end‑of‑day documentation.
  • Operate a cash register periodically, as needed.
  • Ensure a meaningful volunteer experience and represent Habitat positively.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and adhere to schedule.
  • Maintain a presentable appearance, including ReStore‑appropriate attire.
  • Adhere to Habitat’s Code of Conduct and other policies.
  • Perform Habitat‑related tasks as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic math or POS experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Management and customer service experience.
  • Show initiative.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to move merchandise throughout the store.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods.
  • Ability to lift 50 lb. with assistance.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, Saturdays, and periodic holidays.
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification and operate a forklift regularly.
  • Ability to climb steps to forklift cab.

Schedule

  • Estimated 40+ hours per week.
  • Rotating Sunday‑Saturday work week.
  • Shifts scheduled based on store needs, between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
