Backend Software Developer, Jr.

About The Role

We are seeking a talented Junior Backend Software Developer to join our team supporting a high-visibility federal modernization program. This role offers the unique opportunity to work remotely while contributing to mission-critical government IT systems.

The successful candidate will be involved in modernizing legacy platforms, implementing cloud-native microservices, and enhancing search and analytical capabilities for law enforcement and other government agencies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including DevOps, QA, Security, Product, and Architecture to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions.

This position requires at least a Secret Security Clearance and provides a platform to develop your skills in cloud technologies, microservices, and modern software development practices. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of work experience or Associate’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience
• Active Tier 3 Secret Security Clearance (or higher)
• Strong proficiency in Java and Object-Oriented Programming
• Experience developing microservices, REST APIs, and cloud-native applications
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and automated deployment tools
• Experience designing, developing, and operating solutions on AWS or other cloud platforms
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures, including Apache Kafka, Pub/Sub patterns, streaming, and event sourcing
• Familiarity with Agile frameworks, including Scrum and SAFe ceremonies
• Proficiency with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket

Responsibilities

• Develop, create, and modify computer applications software and specialized utility programs to meet project requirements
• Design and develop microservices within a cloud-native environment, primarily on AWS GovCloud
• Operate and maintain enterprise-scale production systems, ensuring high availability and performance
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues promptly to minimize downtime
• Analyze user needs and develop robust software solutions aligned with organizational goals
• Design and develop databases, collaborating with team members to ensure data integrity and performance
• Apply principles of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis in system design
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and mentoring junior developers to promote engineering excellence
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, QA, Security, and Architecture to deliver integrated solutions
• Migrate existing system functionalities from mainframes to cloud-based environments, primarily AWS
• Implement search capabilities using Elasticsearch or similar technologies to enhance analytical performance
• Build new microservices leveraging OpenShift container platforms following scalable, cloud-native patterns
• Integrate solutions with event-driven architectures and high-throughput data processing systems
