About the role
Pylon America is revolutionizing the mortgage industry by creating the first vertically integrated mortgage platform. Our mission is to simplify mortgage origination into a single API, making it faster, more consistent, and more accurate than any human process. We are currently seeking Back End Engineers to join our Underwriting team.
Responsibilities
- Encode natural language rules into code using DSLs and novel techniques, including AI, to translate dense regulatory guidelines into executable logic.
- Work side-by-side with mortgage experts to understand nuances, exceptions, and the "it depends" nature of the domain.
- Build systems where correctness is paramount, designing for precision, building robust test coverage, and thinking deeply about failure modes.
- Push into uncharted territory by applying AI in innovative ways to define what's possible in the mortgage industry.
- Automate complex, regulated processes, contributing to a world where mortgages are faster, cheaper, and more accessible.
Requirements
- Experience with TypeScript and custom DSLs for rule encoding.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML principles and tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively with mortgage experts to interpret and implement complex regulatory guidelines.
- Experience with NestJS, GraphQL, SQL (PostgreSQL), and workflow orchestration tools like Temporal.io.
- Deep curiosity and a willingness to tackle challenging problems.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality, maintainable code.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in software engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with mortgage underwriting regulations and guidelines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a track record of delivering outcomes without direct supervision.
Skills
- Expertise in TypeScript and custom DSLs for rule encoding.
- Knowledge of AI/ML principles and tools.
- Experience with NestJS, GraphQL, SQL (PostgreSQL), and workflow orchestration tools like Temporal.io.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, especially with subject matter experts in mortgage underwriting.
