Backend Engineer, Agents
About Hebbia: The AI platform for investors and bankers that generates alpha and drives upside. Founded in 2020 by George Sivulka and backed by Peter Thiel and Andreessen Horowitz, Hebbia powers investment decisions for BlackRock, KKR, Carlyle, Centerview, and 40% of the world’s largest asset managers. Our flagship product, Matrix, delivers industry-leading accuracy, speed, and transparency in AI-driven analysis, trusted to help manage over $30 trillion in assets globally. We deliver the intelligence that gives finance professionals a definitive edge—uncovering signals no human could see, surfacing hidden opportunities, and accelerating decisions with unmatched speed and conviction. Hebbia transforms how capital is deployed, how risk is managed, and how value is created across markets.
The Team
Hebbia enables leading finance and legal firms with advanced reasoning, copiloting, and retrieval capabilities—unlocking meaningful insights for high-impact use cases. The Agents team builds core document understanding capabilities, copiloting experiences for Matrix, and deep, multi-source research systems. We’ve developed our own agentic frameworks powered by distributed systems built for scale, prioritizing steerable, reliable, and explainable systems that handle the vast data our customers bring.
Our goal is to unlock the "unknowable unknown" for customers worldwide, building a product that becomes indispensable and as delightful as a favorite consumer tool. We move fast and build first-of-their-kind systems.
What We’ve Built
- A custom multi-agent framework powering deep research capabilities and copiloting interfaces, paired with distributed systems infrastructure for long-running agentic tasks.
- The world’s most powerful and scalable LLM inference engine—a distributed, asynchronous DAG orchestrator capable of live graph mutations and throughput management.
- Elastically scaling data representation and metadata generation, enabling the most effective private data retrieval systems.
- Industry-leading agents solving problems from buy-side company diligence to multi-billion-dollar M&A.
About the Role
A backend engineer at Hebbia blends expertise in systems, application-layer software, and data modeling to build highly efficient solutions. You’ll leverage the latest software and agentic technologies, integrating product experience with powerful distributed systems to protect Hebbia’s technical edge through elegant design, efficient data communication, and sophisticated integrations. We value engineers who move fast, hold themselves accountable to quality, and are detail-oriented.
