General Summary
The Back-End Engineer position supports the design, development, and maintenance of sophisticated Condition Assessment Systems and Remote Monitoring Systems that are crucial for naval operations. The Back-End Engineer will work with a modern tech stack to build and enhance software that directly supports Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) methodologies for vital naval equipment.
Principal Duties/Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance software for advanced Condition Assessment and Remote Monitoring systems in support of the NSWCPD.
- Design, code, and implement software upgrades, enhancements, and new utilities using Go, with exposure to Javascript, Kotlin, and other languages as needed.
- Provide routine software maintenance, technical administration, and hardware setup support.
- Manage and optimize relational databases (PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB), including schema design, query optimization, and administrative functions.
- Create and deliver comprehensive software development plans and packages.
- Conduct rigorous software development testing in accordance with IEEE standards.
- Implement processes and technologies to gather, analyze, and validate shipboard equipment data, troubleshooting issues to ensure data integrity.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s level degree in Computer, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or Mathematics with field of concentration in computer science or equivalent. from an accredited college or university.
- At least 3 years of experience in computer design, software development or computer networks including software design.
- C/C++ experience preferred.
- Experience in the design, development, and implementation of machinery lifecycle management software systems preferred.
- Familiarity with and have developed applications using the DoDAF standards preferred.
Special Requirements
- Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance.
- Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.
- Able to obtain OS certification or complete approved related training within 180 days of hire.
- A+ CE, CCNA-Security, CND, Network+ CE, or SSCP certification preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
Skills and Abilities
- Essential Skills:
- Proven professional experience in software development, particularly with Go (GoLang).
- Demonstrated proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MS SQL).
- Strong experience with container orchestration using Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with message brokers such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar.
- Proficiency with version control using Git.
- Experience with API design and implementation using gRPC and GraphQL.
- Solid understanding of the Linux operating system and command line.
- Additional Preferred Skills:
- Experience designing and building event-driven microservices architectures.
- Experience in industrial analytics, machinery diagnostics, or condition-based maintenance (CBM) systems.
- Experience with time-series databases (e.g, TimescaleDB, InfluxDB, etc.).
- Prior experience delivering Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) or Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions.
- Familiarity with U.S. Government or Department of Defense development environments.
