About the role

The Quality Assurance Inspector performs inspection of optical components, metal/manufactured parts, subassemblies/assemblies, products and/or materials for quality and conformance to designed specification by visual comparison, adjustable gauges and test sets.

Essential Duties

  • Performs precise visual and dimensional inspection of optical components and metal parts as needed.
  • Performs FAI's (First Article Inspections) on diverse range of optical components down to 6mm.
  • Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
  • Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizing re-work and waste; inputting data into quality database.
  • Clearly and professionally communicate inspection findings, quality issues, requests, and status updates via email, Microsoft Teams, and in person with engineers, leads, supervisors, and assembly technicians.
  • Uses good judgment to resolve internal and supplier quality issues.
  • Keeps measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions and upkeep; monitoring their calibration status.
  • Ability to challenge fellow employees regarding quality.
  • Able to prioritize workload and manage constant shifting daily priorities.
  • Able to work well independently.
  • Complies with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Supports company values including ethical conduct and high integrity in all actions.

Education And Experience

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
  • Minimum of one-year previous experience regularly using computer and measuring instruments (i.e. Zygo interferometers, SmartScope Vision Systems, Scratch-dig references, Stylus profiler, Optical Comparator, Laser Ruler, Oscilloscope, and other machines or equipment tools required to complete duties and responsibilities listed above).
  • Experience or familiarity with MIL-spec compliance for optical surfaces is highly preferred.
  • Experience with interpretation of GD&T tolerancing.
  • Experience with interface with all manufacturing departments.
  • Experience compiling data for analysis.
  • Regularly work in a cleanroom environment with gowning protocol.
  • Comply with the Clean Room Protocol when entering a clean room environment.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word/Excel).
  • High degree of accuracy and/or alertness required.
  • Familiarity with special terminology as related to the manufacture of optical lens and related products.

Total Rewards

The compensation range for this position is $42,500.00 - $63,700.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
