Position Summary

The Class B Lineman is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical transmission systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require travel to various job sites, including out-of-state locations.

About the Role

Reports to the Foreman, this position requires a safety-first approach to tasks such as new construction, maintenance, and repair of transmission systems. Responsibilities include installing and repairing overhead transmission lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware. Knowledge of switching, grounding, and induced voltage handling is essential. Proficiency in heavy lifting, rigging, and operating bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, and pullers is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized transmission systems while prioritizing safety.
  • Install and repair overhead transmission lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
  • Comprehensively understand and apply switching and tagging procedures, EPZ grounding, and induced voltage handling techniques using appropriate tools and test equipment.
  • Climb different structures (wood, steel, concrete) using approved climbing methods and equipment.
  • Work at heights and in close proximity to energized equipment.
  • Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other transmission line equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
  • Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, including on-call rotations.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including personal protective equipment (PPE) use and understanding insulated protective covers to isolate differences of potential on energized lines.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of recent transmission line experience.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work at different job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
  • Availability to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

Physical Demands

While performing the responsibilities of this job, you will frequently stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. You are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. You will perform job responsibilities in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions.
