About the role

The Transmission Class B Lineman is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position requires frequent travel to various locations and may involve working with energized high voltage systems.

Responsibilities

  • Stringing overhead wire.
  • Setting poles and anchors.
  • Troubleshooting problems on transmission systems.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
  • Perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Identify transmission primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
  • Understand induced voltage, grounding procedures, and proper use of phasing sticks.
  • Proficient in pole/tower climbing, heaving lifting, and rigging.
  • Operate wire tensioner equipment, sideloader, bucket, and derrick.
  • Understand and read blueprints, equipment setup, grounding, and flag/tag procedures.
  • Capable of performing basic bucket rescue/escape, installing/removing mechanical jumpers, and properly inspecting rubber goods and PPE.
  • Work safely at heights and/or confined spaces, and work outside in various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • 3-year minimum of field experience.
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, work for extended periods in various locations, lift in excess of 50 lbs, and properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested and willing to glove/work high voltage transmission lines.

  • Self-motivated and team-oriented with a customer-focused mindset.

Skills

  • Safe working practices in high voltage environments.
  • Knowledge of grounding procedures and proper use of phasing sticks.
  • Understanding of minimum approach distance and flag/tag procedures.
  • Ability to perform bucket rescue/escape and basic bucket rescue/escape.
  • Proficiency in pole/tower climbing, heaving lifting, and rigging.
  • Ability to operate wire tensioner equipment, sideloader, bucket, and derrick.
  • Understanding of equipment set up and grounding.
  • Ability to work at heights and/or confined spaces.
  • Ability to properly install and remove PPE and cover up.
  • Ability to check voltage on transformers and clip in transmission conductor.
  • Knowledge of proper line clearances and wire sizes.
  • Understanding of flag and tag procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic bucket rescue/escape.
  • Ability to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
