B Lineman - Overhead
Position Summary
The Class B Lineman is a safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical overhead distribution systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require travel to various job sites, including out-of-state locations, as needed.
About the role
Reports to the Foreman, this position requires a combination of technical skills and physical stamina. Key responsibilities include:
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems
- Install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware
- Use appropriate tools and test equipment for switching, tagging, grounding, and induced voltage operations
- Climb different structures (wood, steel, concrete) using approved methods and equipment
- Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other overhead line equipment
- Work outdoors in various environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather
- Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations
- Perform live-line work using approved glove and hot-stick techniques on energized lines, including troubleshooting and fault locating
- Follow all safety protocols, including PPE use and understanding of insulated protective covers to isolate differences of potential
Essential Functions
To perform the essential functions of this job, you will need:
- Three (3) years of recent overhead line experience
- A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Willingness to travel long distances on short notice
- Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments
- Availability to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime
Minimum Requirements

Physical Demands
While performing the responsibilities of this job, you will be required to:
- Talk, listen, and use hand signals to communicate
- Stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms
- Be frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration
- Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites
- Be exposed to noise levels in the work environment and job sites that can be loud
- Perform job responsibilities in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions
