B Lineman - Overhead

Safety-focused professional responsible for constructing and repairing electrical overhead distribution systems. Work involves energized and de-energized powerlines, with potential travel to job sites including out-of-state locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de-energized overhead distribution systems with a focus on safety.
  • Install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of switching and tagging procedures, grounding, and induced voltage on energized and de-energized lines using proper tools and test equipment.
  • Climb structures (wood, steel, concrete) using approved climbing methods and equipment.
  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, and near energized equipment.
  • Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other overhead line equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
  • Respond to outages, storms, and emergencies, including on-call rotations.
  • Perform live-line work using approved gloving and hot-stick techniques on energized lines, including troubleshooting and fault locating.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including PPE use and insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of recent overhead line experience.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Willingness to travel long distances on short notice, including out-of-state assignments.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

  • Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools, or controls.
  • Reaching with hands and arms.
  • Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme conditions at construction job sites, including heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions.
  • Loud noise levels in the work environment and job sites.
  • Communication through talking, listening, and hand signals.
