About the role
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an B-2 Aircraft Low Observables Mechanic 1/2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting the B-2 Modification Team. This role is located at Whiteman AFB, MO.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for all aircraft low observable outer mold line structures, materials, and applications.
- Prepares composite or metallic surfaces for coating applications by performing various operations such as sanding, stripping, applying vacuum, performing porosity testing, masking, and other preparation tasks.
- Mixes and applies sealants, gap fillers and any other required processes prior to paint which may require the use of heating devices.
- Mixes and applies paints and other coatings at the proper spraying consistency.
- Applies additional surface details to manufacturer specifications.
- Performs or coordinates component-level testing for specification compliance after applications have been completed.
- Must obtain and maintain Low Observable qualifications as well as other maintenance certifications directed by supervisor to include but not limited to; structures, electrical, hydraulic couplings, engine/tailpipe removal/installation.
- Must be willing to work various shifts depending on business needs, including, but not limited to: 1st shift 0630 – 1500, 2nd shift 1430 – 2300, 3rd shift 2230 – 0700, and overtime when required.
Requirements
- Level 1: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 0 years of aircraft Low Observables experience.
- Level 2: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of aircraft Low Observables experience including application and repair of low observable coatings and composite or metallic structures or related experience.
- Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated Secret Clearance and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
- The nature of this position requires individuals to be comfortable working in a classified environment; cell phones and personal electronic devices are prohibited within these areas.
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, job guides, and maintenance manuals.
- Willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, holidays, weekends, and support on call status for 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, 365 days a year.
- Must be able to pass a physical/respiratory evaluation to obtain and maintain necessary respirator clearance and compliance with all respirator fitting requirements.
Qualifications
- Active DOD Secret Clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 6 years.
- Hands-on experience with building, modifying, or maintaining aircraft, automotive, or other machines/equipment using common hand tools.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to work with others at all levels of the organization.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Initiative, self-starter, adaptable, and high motivation for excellence.
- Completion of A&P certificate program or associate’s degree in an applicable field.
Skills
- Ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 35 pounds, working overhead, and accessing small, confined spaces.
Pay
Primary Level Salary Range: $38,600.00 - $64,400.00 Secondary Level Salary Range: $45,800.00 - $76,400.00
Schedule
The selected candidate must be willing to work a flexible work schedule that may include extended shifts, holidays, weekends, and support on call status for 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, 365 days a year.
