The English Department offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses to meet the needs of students with a diversity of interests, and academic and professional backgrounds. By studying literature, rhetoric, composition, and critical theory, students in the Department of English acquire experience in inter-textual and cross-disciplinary inquiry represented by many cultures and historical periods. They learn critical approaches to texts and issues that enable them to interpret and compare positions, to read closely, critically, and with empathy, to conduct research, to weigh evidence, and to write with insight and expertise.

Founded In 1956, Portland Review Publishes Prose, Poetry, Art, And Translations Reflecting a Wide Spectrum Of Aesthetic Styles And Voices. Produced By The Graduate Students In Portland State University’s English Department, Portland Review Is Proud To Publish Both Established And Emerging Writers. During 2020, They Made The Switch To Digital Publishing.

PDX REVIEW AIMS TO SHOWCASE A DIVERSE SPECTRUM OF LITERARY AND ARTISTIC ENGAGEMENT ACROSS GENRES AND DISCIPLINES, ENCOURAGE EXPLORATION AND EXPERIMENTATION, MAKE SPACE FOR DIFFERENT APPROACHES AND VANTAGE POINTS, BUILD LITERARY COMMUNITY, ACKNOWLEDGE BOTH THE RICH AND CONFLICTED HISTORY OF PORTLAND, AS WELL AS ITS CONNECTION TO THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND BEYOND, BE A PLATFORM DEDICATED TO ISSUES OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS.

Position Details

WR 550 Portland Review – F- 2cr, W – 1 cr, Sp – 1cr

Exposure and Promotion

Expose and promote best publishing practices and technologies while fostering transparency regarding all editorial, publishing, and marketing aspects of Portland Review. Provide resources, assignments, feedback, context, instruction on all facets of production.

Minimum Qualifications

• MFA or significant professional experience.
• For 500-level courses: A distinguished record of publication and one year demonstrated excellence in creative writing & editing instruction.
• Applicants must reside in Oregon or SW Washington.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience editing literary magazines and creative writing publications.

Compensation

Adjunct faculty members are paid per credit hour per the AFT Collective Bargaining Agreement which can be found at https://www.pdx.edu/academic-affairs/academic-unions#psufa
