About the role
The position is an Adjunct Instructor position in the Department of Philosophy at Portland State University. The courses typically taught by our Adjunct pool are 300-level Philosophy courses that are also part of University Studies Junior Clusters.
Responsibilities
- Teach 300-level Philosophy courses as assigned.
- Develop and maintain course materials consistent with departmental standards.
- Participate in departmental meetings and committee work.
- Engage in scholarly activities such as attending conferences and publishing.
Requirements
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution and prior college-level teaching experience.
- Applicant must live in Oregon or SW Washington.
- PhD in Philosophy from an accredited institution and prior college-level teaching experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Ability to teach a variety of Philosophy courses at the 300 level.
- Experience in higher education teaching.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to inclusive and engaged teaching.
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Knowledge of current pedagogical methods and technologies.
Benefits
Adjunct faculty members are paid per credit hour according to the PSUFA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Pay
Adjunct faculty members are paid per credit hour according to the PSUFA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Schedule
Adjunct faculty members are hired on a semester-by-semester basis based on departmental needs.
