DHHS-ITD is seeking an AWS/Java/ETL Developer with 8-10 years of software development experience to collaborate with data modernization teams at ITD and DPH. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and managing AWS solutions that align with technical requirements and business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and propose effective modernization strategies.
- Design, develop, and test Java-based, cloud-native applications and backend systems.
- Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines.
- Analyze data models and business requirements.
- Perform data validation by querying databases to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Design, create, and execute test cases for back-end logic and data processing.
- Validate back-end logic not immediately visible through the user interface.
- Work closely with developers and business analysts to understand data requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
- Utilize AWS services within application architecture.
- Develop, test, debug, and deliver solutions within timelines using best tools and best practices.
- Participate in code reviews, ensure security best practices, and maintain clean, efficient code.
- Monitor application performance and optimize for cost, security, and reliability.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues and challenges.
- Ensure adherence to standards and best practices.
- Work with product managers, business stakeholders, and team members to refine requirements and deliver solutions.
Requirements
- Proficient in using various AWS services (e.g., VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, API Gateway, Glue Crawlers, Athena) to build and manage cloud infrastructure. Required: 5 years
- Hands-on experience in software development with Java, including strong knowledge of Java, J2EE, Java Spring framework, and Hibernate. Required: 7 years
- Experience in modernizing applications, including refactoring, migration, and cloud-native development. Required: 5 years
- Knowledge of modern database technologies and strategies for migrating and modernizing database systems. Required: 5 years
- Experience with DevOps practices and automation tools. Required: 5 years
- Experience creating AWS ETL jobs and data pipelines with high volumes of data. Required: 3 years
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams, including developers, business analysts, and stakeholders. Required: 7 years
- Experience with data analytics and business intelligence solutions (e.g., Power BI or AWS QuickSight). Nice to have: 2 years

Skills
- Modernizing legacy applications, including refactoring and migrating in-house legacy applications to the cloud.
- Building enterprise-level Data Lakes using AWS services and related components.
- Working with transactional or RDMS databases.
- SQL: Writing complex queries, understanding database relationships, debugging, and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based ETL tools.
- Data modeling.
- Agile/Scrum Framework environments.
