AVS Digital Architect

About the role
We are looking to expand our team with a hybrid engineer/project manager who can manage projects, solve technical problems on medical networks, assist commercial teams with the sales process, communicate effectively, and deliver presentations in front of technical and non-technical leaders.
The AVS Digital Architect drives connectivity for ALCON AVS (Alcon Vision Suite) products and legacy Alcon Medical Devices, performs integrations with customers and their EHR vendors (involving TCP/IP, DICOM, HL7, FHIR), and supports connectivity concerns for all network-capable medical equipment. As a technical subject-matter expert, this role leads integrations and resolves interoperability challenges in a growing, family-like team.
Responsibilities
- Ensure AVS installs are connected in a timely manner
- Drive connectivity on all Alcon hardware (medical devices) and software (SaaS/SaMD) product lines
- Manage all phases of project plans for hardware and software integrations, including stakeholder management
- Track time of installation of Alcon AVS products at customer sites
- Own regional integration process and define data-flow maps for customer integrations
- Ensure all project installation phases are completed on schedule by supporting each phase
- Follow processes related to proper documentation after each task
- Respond to monitoring alerts indicating offline devices
- Occasionally lead classes on networking and medical-device interoperability
- Assist with User Acceptance Testing (pre-customer handover)
- Complete Alcon-assigned training on time
- Maintain professional communications with internal and external customers
- Engage other Alcon functional teams to address customer issues
- Exhibit boundaryless collaboration when partnering with other teams
- Own issues through resolution until handoff is confirmed
- Proactively identify process improvements for local and global tasks
- Create presentations for customers and Alcon teams at all levels (executives, medical staff, IT)
- Backfill other roles on the team domestically and internationally as needed
- Proactively remain current on industry trends
- Exemplify a customer-focused attitude with a sense of urgency and bias for action
- Be results-oriented and perform duties ethically, adhering to laws, regulations, and company policies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of directly related experience (high school +13 yrs; Associate’s +9 yrs; Master’s +2 yrs; PhD +0 yrs)
- Ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
- 5+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in the healthcare or medical industry
- 2+ years of experience with DICOM and/or HL7
- Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
- Excellent customer-service and troubleshooting skills
- Able to explain difficult concepts to a wide audience (senior leadership, non-technical and tech-savvy customers)
- Experience troubleshooting networks and general IT issues
- Up to 25% travel for regional leadership meetings, customer visits, and conferences
- Ability to lift network equipment weighing up to 15 kg (not frequently)
- Ability to work remotely as needed
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); project-planning software is a plus
- Scheduling flexibility, including occasional after-hours or weekends
- Experience managing customer service, satisfaction, and contractual commitments
- Experience configuring network hardware; server and VMWare experience is a plus
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills
Desired Characteristics
- Cisco Certifications (any)
- Medical-field certifications: DICOM, HL7
- Understanding of FHIR
- Project Management Certifications (PMP)
- Experience supporting healthcare customers with BAA agreements
- Experience with global security and privacy standards (GDPR, HIPAA, HITECH, network/data/privacy issues)
- Experience developing/managing integration solutions, web services, and schemas (XML/JSON)
- Previous help-desk, network-engineer, firewall, or project-management experience
- Fluency in additional Americas-based languages (Portuguese, Spanish, French) is a plus
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL, Oracle) is a plus
Pay
Pay Range: $116,450.00 – $150,700.00 annually
