About the role
The AVP, Valuation Actuary will play a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of annuity valuation results, supporting financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal risk management. This role will be a key technical contributor in production valuation processes, partnering closely with finance, risk, and modeling teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform and review Statutory and GAAP valuation for annuity products
- Own end-to-end execution of valuation processes, including assumption governance, model execution, results validation, and documentation
- Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial models in GGY AXIS, supporting both BAU production and analytical initiatives
- Partner closely with finance, risk, and modeling teams to explain reserve movements, emerging experience, and quarter-over-quarter results
- Support regulatory and audit engagements, including preparation of exhibits, memoranda, and responses to inquiries
- Contribute to the continued evolution of valuation infrastructure, controls, and automation as the business scales
- Manage, and provide technical guidance and informal mentorship to junior actuarial staff
- Be abreast, represent and further Aspida’s views on upcoming regulations and accounting guidance by actively participating in ACLI, and AAA working groups.
Requirements
- FSA designation with a strong foundation in life and annuity valuation
- 10+ years of actuarial experience, with significant exposure to statutory and/or GAAP valuation
- Strong understanding of U.S. Statutory and U.S. GAAP accounting frameworks. Understanding of Bermuda EBS framework a plus
- Solid understanding of PBR methodologies such as VM-20 or VM-21 or VM-22
- Desire to be a “hands-on” modeler to help with process improvements, implement new and upcoming regulations, and strategic initiatives.
- Expertise and experience with GGY AXIS, including hands-on model development, maintenance, and production runs for life insurance or annuity or long-term care products preferred but not essential.
- Ability to mentor and train junior staff on:
- o U.S. Statutory and GAAP frameworks
- o GGY AXIS modeling
- o Connect actuarial deliverables to broader business results and, P&L.

- Ability to independently manage complex workstreams and deliver high-quality results under tight timelines
- Clear communicator who can translate technical results into business-relevant insights
- Detail-oriented, control-minded, and comfortable operating in a fast-growing, evolving environment
- Ability to educate senior management on operational requirements and business impacts of upcoming regulations and accounting guidance.
