AVP Underwriting, Excess *Remote*

About the role

Berkley Specialty Excess (BSE) is seeking an experienced AVP Underwriter to join our team. This role will cover a nationwide territory and will focus on providing superior business development and marketing strategies for their book of business.

Responsibilities

• Manage key accounts to produce and retain business, maintaining an acceptable underwriting profit.
• Maintain and develop key broker/agent relationships.
• Participate in internal company training and continuing education.
• Stay current on market trends and product releases.
• Leverage skills and expertise outside of desk responsibilities, including participation in marketing/public speaking events.
• Manage and develop business and broker relationships new to the organization.
• Function as a referral authority for Associate Underwriters and Underwriters.

Requirements

• 10+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience, preferably in E&S markets.
• Technical knowledge of general casualty lines of coverage, other lines of experience a plus.
• Experience with excess casualty contractual wording, rating methodologies, financial analysis, and policy structure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent insurance experience required.
• Coursework toward applicable designation (CPCU, RPLU, etc.) desired.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
