AVP, Underwriting

For our client, we are seeking a AVP, Underwriting to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space. This role will shape underwriting strategy for a life insurance organization, with a focus on risk selection, process improvement, and strong alignment to enterprise goals. The AVP will partner closely with field leaders and producers to strengthen underwriting practices, improve agent experience, and support profitable growth. This is a highly visible leadership role that combines technical underwriting expertise with team development, external market credibility, and a continuous-improvement mindset. The successful candidate will lead a high-performing underwriting team while advancing compliance, quality assurance, and innovative approaches to complex case decisions. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available Compensation: $168,750 – $247,500 annually Responsibilities Develop and articulate a forward-looking underwriting strategy aligned with corporate goals Foster a solution-oriented mindset and promote continuous improvement in underwriting processes Elevate the organization's brand through active participation in industry events and thought leadership Collaborate with field leaders to educate producers on underwriting practices and target demographics Lead a high-performing underwriting team, focusing on hiring, development, and succession planning Champion innovative underwriting practices to enhance competitive edge and agent satisfaction Drive compliance and quality assurance to safeguard profitability through high-quality risk selection Qualifications Bachelor's degree required Master's degree preferred Industry certifications preferred, including FALU, FLMI, and CLU 10+ years of experience in life underwriting with proven business results Recognized industry leader with a strong external reputation Exceptional leadership skills with a collaborative problem-solving style Extensive knowledge in complex case underwriting and living benefits Benefits Flexible and customizable benefits starting from day one Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
