AVP Underwriting - Equine Farm Property

Key Accountabilities/Deliverables

• Aid with form filings, new system development, and other processes as needed.
• Review new risk submissions, renewals, and endorsement requests within assigned authority and underwriting guidelines.
• Manage the underwriting team as the business expands and grows.
• Evaluate, accept, reject, or modify risks within established underwriting guidelines.
• Support Division leadership in developing and implementing the business plan and market strategy.
• Stay informed about the insurance market, particularly in the assigned line of business.
• Ensure prompt responses and high-quality customer service for broker partners.
• Communicate effectively with broker partners to build and maintain relationships.
• Encourage the submission of targeted business and collaborate with brokers to gather necessary information.
• Maintain accurate and timely account statuses across all systems throughout the underwriting lifecycle.
• Pursue professional development to enhance product knowledge and personal growth.
• Show initiative and use independent judgment to support business objectives.

Technical Knowledge and Understanding

• In-depth knowledge of rating, forms, and underwriting requirements.
• Experience in developing and overseeing underwriting teams.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to simplify, analyze, and explain complex issues.
• Proficiency in reviewing processes and identifying areas for improvement.
• Effective time and project management skills.
• Ability to travel (5%) and collaborate with others.

Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
• At least 10 years of experience in equine farm underwriting.
• Preferred 5+ years of management experience.
• AFCIS and CPCU certifications desired.

Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the U.S.
