AVP Underwriter - Equine Farm

Key Accountabilities/Deliverables

• Aid with form filings, new system development, and other processes as needed.
• Review new risk submissions, renewals, and endorsement requests within assigned authority and underwriting guidelines.
• Manage the underwriting team as the business expands and grows.
• Evaluate, accept, reject, or modify risks within established underwriting guidelines.
• Support Division leadership in developing and implementing the division business plan and market strategy.
• Stay informed about the insurance market, particularly in the assigned LOB.
• Maintain accurate and timely status of accounts within all systems throughout the underwriting life cycle of the account.
• Pursue professional training to enhance product knowledge and develop other relevant skills.
• Use independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
• Act as a team player, maintaining a high standard of customer service.

Technical Knowledge and Understanding

• In-depth knowledge of rating, forms, and underwriting requirements.
• Ability to develop and oversee an underwriting team.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to negotiate and persuade effectively.
• Ability to simplify, analyze, and explain complex issues.
• Ability to review processes and identify areas for improvement.
• Ability to manage time and projects effectively.
• Ability to travel (5%).
• Ability to collaborate, think analytically, and foster relationships.

Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
• 10+ years of experience in equine farm underwriting required.
• 5+ years of management experience preferred.
• AFIS, CPCU certification desired.
