About the role

The AVP, Underwriter is responsible for the completion of new deal underwritings, providing financial, credit, and trend analysis for the delivery of Banc of California's credit products and services to sponsor-backed lower middle market and middle market prospects in the Technology industry. This role also plays an integral role in the loan closing process.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and structures complex credit requests across both lower middle market and middle market venture capital, growth equity and private equity backed technology companies.
  • Performs independent credit analysis of new credit requests, generating complete underwriting files ranging from deal screening documents to final credit approval memorandums.
  • Prepares analysis of financial statements for privately held and sponsor-owned companies from quality of earnings reports, financial projections, and audited statements.
  • Works with company CFOs to ensure projections cover all necessary concepts.
  • Prepares final approval documents via change memos, approval emails, and new credit memorandums.
  • Interacts with loan operations, insurance operations, treasury management, and various other internal stakeholders in preparing and closing new loan opportunities.
  • Collaborates with nCino regularly to complete these tasks.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Keeps up-to-date with changes to banking regulations and completes bank training courses on time.
  • Understands complex corporate structures.
  • Travel to client sites as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of underwriting experience in leveraged finance, investment banking, or commercial finance roles.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or relevant work experience/training (High school diploma or equivalent required).
  • Experience working in sponsor finance or on leveraged loan transactions and analyzing corporate borrowers.
  • PC proficiency with emphasis in Word, Excel, and Moody's.
  • Proficient with nCino.
  • Excellent composing and writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with a wide range of people.
  • Responsiveness, judgment, maturity, integrity, and time management skills.
  • Strong financial analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex financial statements and complicated business and personal tax returns.

Qualifications

Pay

The base salary ultimately offered is determined through a review of education, industry experience, training, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant in alignment with market data and other factors.
