About The Role

Everest Reinsurance Company is seeking a Director/AVP Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter to join our International Reinsurance Division in the Warren, New Jersey office. This role focuses on underwriting and managing a diversified portfolio of proportional and non-proportional reinsurance treaties for ceding companies in the Middle East and Africa. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and interpersonal skills, management experience, and enthusiasm for international travel. Fluency in French or Arabic is a plus.

This is a hybrid role based in Warren, NJ, requiring onsite presence 3 days a week. Alternative office locations include New York City and Philadelphia. The role involves approximately 6 weeks of international travel per year to the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage both excess of loss and proportional treaty accounts within defined underwriting authority, ensuring alignment with Everest’s risk appetite.
  • Make sound underwriting decisions to achieve targeted profitability objectives.
  • Identify and secure profitable new business opportunities in the Middle East and Africa region.
  • Define and execute market and underwriting strategies.
  • Manage and mentor junior team members.
  • Utilize internal underwriting, pricing, and catastrophe modeling tools.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with ceding companies and reinsurance brokers, providing exceptional service.
  • Lead marketing trips to the Middle East and Africa; represent and promote Everest at client and broker meetings and industry conferences.
  • Maintain an understanding of key markets in the Middle East and Africa and current industry trends.
  • Adhere to internal and external compliance guidelines and maintain proper file documentation.
  • Collaborate with corporate underwriting, actuarial, claims, accounting, and contract wording teams.
  • Provide management support to the Head of Middle East and Africa Treaty.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a reinsurance treaty underwriter of non-life business lines.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, risk management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Very strong analytical and technical skills, including the ability to interpret catastrophe modeling and actuarial methodologies.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and negotiating skills.
  • Fluency in French or Arabic is ideal but not required.
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Suite with advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to develop proficiency with company-specific electronic filing and processing systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $177,000 - $215,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications, and work location.
