AVP, Technology E&O Underwriter

Responsibilities

  • Analyze customers’ business information and claims history
  • Monitor clients’ activities to change policies as risks evolve
  • Evaluate acceptability of individual risks and determine overall acceptability of risk, coverage terms and pricing
  • Work with agents/brokers to develop productive and profitable relationships
  • Ensure compliance with company underwriting guidelines and insurance regulators
  • Utilize sales, marketing and negotiating skills to grow the book and enhance producer relationships
  • Manage growth, profit and loss for assigned region
  • Manage agency/producer relationships for assigned region
  • Handle new and renewal submissions and endorsement requests from agents/ producers
  • Document underwriting files to support analysis, coverage terms and pricing
  • Operate in accordance with underwriting authority as delegated by manager
  • Lead business initiatives for territory including execution of pricing, premium retention, coverage analysis, loss control needs, claim service needs and account stewardship
  • Provide clear instruction and guidance to underwriting support staff and operations staff
  • Apply sales and marketing skills and strategies to meet financial goals
  • Follow established pricing, underwriting and documentation protocol as set forth by underwriting management
  • Mentor & coach underwriters and underwriting support staff

Qualifications

  • May perform other functions as assigned
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial underwriting
  • Knowledge of commercial lines underwriting standards and practices along with rating/pricing methods
  • Travel: Travel 25% - overnight travel required
  • Knowledge of interpreting coverage forms
  • Negotiation skills
  • Experience selling and/or marketing insurance products & services
  • Producer management – driving results and managing agency/producer relationships
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

  • Excellent PC skills and a working knowledge of Windows environment
  • A valid driver’s license and carry vehicle insurance coverage
