About the role

GIC is one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, investing in more than 40 countries globally across asset classes and businesses. The Legal and Compliance Department (LCD) manages legal and regulatory compliance risk for GIC and partners with the business to ensure risks are identified, assessed, and addressed efficiently.

The successful candidate will initially work in our New York office before relocating to our San Francisco office, supporting GIC’s Technology Investment Group. The scope of coverage may evolve with GIC’s business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Identify key legal and reputational issues in transactions arising from investment activities.
  • Recommend and implement creative solutions to address a wide variety of complex legal issues.
  • Liaise and consult with top international and local law firms on legal matters, delivering superior services cost-effectively.
  • Review and manage transactions to close, and draft or comment on associated contracts.
  • Contribute to and promote teamwork and collaboration within the LCD team.
  • Participate in or contribute to GIC-wide initiatives and projects on a global basis.

Requirements

  • Law degree with strong academic results from a reputable law school and 3-5 years of post-qualification experience as a venture capital lawyer (in private practice or in-house).
  • Relevant legal experience in venture capital, emerging companies, startup financing, private equity, and/or investment funds is advantageous.
  • Licensed to practice law in a U.S. state (preferably New York or California).
  • Analytical, intellectually curious, with a strong knowledge of commercial law; able to identify legal risks and propose solutions while balancing business objectives.
  • Strong negotiating skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills to represent GIC effectively with counterparties and internal teams.
  • Adaptable, resourceful, able to multitask under tight deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, with drive and a strong desire to succeed.

Pay

Total compensation for this role includes a base salary and bonus. The anticipated base salary range is $280,000 to $320,000. Bonuses, which may form a meaningful proportion of total pay, are determined based on company and individual performance.
