AVP, Accelerated Underwriting and Analytics

About the role

Lead the development of industry-leading mortality and risk-selection assumption methodologies for accelerated and automated underwriting programs.

Evaluate third-party data sources and predictive models, determining appropriate actuarial and analytical approaches to assumption setting and monitoring.

Ensure that analytical models and assumptions reflect pricing guidelines, best practices, and regulatory expectations.

Advise pricing actuaries, underwriters, and clients on the use of external scores, tools, and underwriting data in product and reinsurance structures.

Lead projects with clients to design, calibrate, and optimize dynamic underwriting programs.

Present technical insights and findings to internal stakeholders, clients, and industry audiences as appropriate.

Collaborate with the Client Partners and pricing teams to support opportunity evaluation and broader client strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise on underwriting, mortality modeling, and data quality.
  • Identify and research emerging trends in automated and accelerated underwriting and develop recommendations for strategic adoption and market positioning.
  • Develop and maintain documentation to support internal peer review and governance.
  • Lead the monitoring frameworks for ongoing performance evaluation of underwriting programs, scores, and models.
  • Oversee and review the work of junior team members, providing technical coaching and guidance.
  • Foster collaboration, accountability, and strong analytical standards across the AUW & Pricing function.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in US life insurance or reinsurance.
  • Understanding of predictive modeling concepts, emerging AI agentic tools, and machine-learning approaches.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of trends in automated and accelerated life underwriting.
  • Familiarity with life pricing, product development, or reinsurance analytics.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder-management skills, with experience presenting technical material to both actuarial and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and advanced Excel.
  • Hands-on experience with R, Python, SQL, Tableau, or Power BI is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science or related discipline.
  • Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries (FSA).
