AVID Tutor - Middle School

About the role

The San Mateo-Foster City School District is located in the heart of Silicon Valley and aims to create a strong sense of belonging by hiring a diverse workforce that reflects the students and families in the community. The district educates approximately 10,500 students across 22 schools, including three middle schools, fifteen elementary schools, three schools with all grades, and one Early Education Center.

Responsibilities

• Work with small groups of middle school students.
• Determine from student notes and discussions, the concepts that need to be reviewed.
• Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc.
• Become familiar with the materials in the AVID Curriculum Library.
• Facilitate tutorial sessions about core content areas.
• Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow.
• Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Willing to facilitate inquiry based learning.
• A desire to make a difference in the lives of students.

Training

• Tutors will be trained in the Socratic tutorial method and will receive ongoing feedback.
