This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Aviation Software Verification & Test Engineer based in the United States. Join a mission-driven engineering team dedicated to advancing aviation safety and modernizing critical navigation systems. As an Aviation Software Verification & Test Engineer, you will play a key role in verifying and validating safety-critical avionics software throughout the development and certification lifecycle. You will design and execute requirements-based tests, assess system performance, and support hardware/software integration for advanced aviation navigation technologies. Working with software, systems, hardware, and certification engineers, you will investigate technical issues and ensure compliance with rigorous aviation standards. Your expertise in DO-178C, SCADE, and Java will help produce reliable software and high-quality verification evidence for certification. This fully remote opportunity combines technical problem-solving, independent engineering work, and collaboration on programs with a meaningful impact on aviation safety. Accountabilities As an Aviation Software Verification & Test Engineer, you will lead verification activities for safety-critical aviation software, ensuring that system behavior meets approved requirements and applicable certification objectives. You will collaborate across engineering disciplines to identify issues, maintain traceability, and deliver comprehensive technical documentation. Develop, review, and execute software and system test cases, scripts, and procedures for safety-critical avionics applications. Perform requirements-based verification, including functional, system, integration, and performance testing, to confirm that software meets defined requirements. Conduct testing on avionics hardware platforms and integrated hardware/software environments, including simulation, bench testing, and hardware-in-the-loop environments when applicable. Evaluate system behavior under normal, abnormal, and boundary conditions, investigate anomalies, troubleshoot integration issues, and document findings and corrective actions. Execute regression testing following software updates or requirements changes and support verification activities throughout the avionics development lifecycle. Apply DO-178C verification objectives and contribute to certification compliance by preparing and maintaining complete, traceable, repeatable verification evidence. Review system and software requirements for clarity, consistency, completeness, and testability, translating approved requirements into executable test procedures. Maintain bidirectional traceability between requirements, test cases, procedures, results, and identified anomalies using IBM DOORS or comparable requirements management tools. Use SCADE in model-based software development and verification environments, including supporting verification of generated or model-based avionics software. Apply Java development expertise to support testing, automation, troubleshooting, and verification activities. Collaborate with software developers, systems engineers, hardware specialists, and certification stakeholders to resolve technical issues and close verification gaps. Develop test reports, verification records, certification artifacts, and other technical documentation, while communicating results and program status clearly to stakeholders. Participate in requirements reviews, test reviews, peer reviews, and technical discussions involving aviation safety and certification considerations. Requirements You are an experienced software engineering and verification professional with a strong understanding of safety-critical aviation systems, rigorous testing practices, and certification requirements. You can work independently, analyze complex technical requirements, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable, well-documented results. At least 8 years of professional experience in software development, software verification, software testing, or a related engineering discipline. At least 5 years of Java development experience. Direct professional experience using SCADE. Direct experience supporting DO-178C software development, verification, testing, or certification activities. Demonstrated experience developing and executing requirements-based software test cases and procedures. Experience performing functional, system, integration, or performance testing of avionics systems. Experience testing software alongside avionics hardware and supporting hardware/software integration. Experience supporting avionics certification and testing activities. Experience with navigation avionics, aircraft navigation systems, inertial navigation systems, or closely related aviation technologies. Familiarity with FAA certification activities, aircraft safety analysis, or other safety-critical aviation development processes. Ability to analyze system and software requirements and translate them into effective verification procedures. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to software quality. Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills. Ability to work independently in a remote engineering environment while collaborating with geographically distributed teams. Must be a U.S. citizen. Availability to work during Eastern Time business hours and willingness to travel up to 10% as needed.
