About the role

The Aviation Planner will work on a range of projects across the country, conducting complex studies and analysis to develop plans for capital projects related to asset/facility utilization, land use, transportation initiatives, and other airport planning requirements. This role demonstrates an understanding of the broader business context and local/regional implications of planning decisions affecting airports.

Projects will involve applying FAA design criteria, CAD/GIS (including ALPs), airfield planning, landside planning, facility requirements development, and project or program management support. Experience in airport master planning, airfield planning, and Airport Layout Plan (ALP) development with knowledge of FAA guidelines is required.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, communicate, and implement recommended solutions in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Prepare planning assignments applying FAA design guidelines and regulations.
  • Ensure integration of long-term master plans and strategic objectives into development projects.
  • Conduct and document project research.
  • Analyze data and present results using Excel and GIS for aviation and airport-related analyses.
  • Write and format draft technical memos and reports.
  • Research and investigate technical issues impacting airport development projects.
  • Interpret regulations and propose solutions to obtain required project permits.
  • Assume responsibility for moderately complex projects or portions of more complex projects.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in aviation planning, transportation planning, urban planning, transportation engineering, aviation management, engineering, quantitative analysis, math, computer science, or public administration. Master’s degree is desirable.
  • Minimum of two years of experience; five or more years preferred.
  • Proficiency in CAD, Revit, and/or GIS software.
  • Experience with airport master planning, airfield planning, and Airport Layout Plan (ALP) development, including knowledge of FAA guidelines.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Skills

  • FAA SMS and airfield/airspace planning course experience preferred.
  • Ability to develop and refine technical skills (e.g., Autodesk Revit, VISSIM, Synchro®, Vistro®, CAD, graphics software, ESRI GIS, cost estimating, scheduling).
  • Above-average communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-motivated with excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work within structured environments with set expectations.
  • Ability to interact professionally in group settings and represent the firm appropriately.

Pay

$70,000 - $85,000, depending on qualifications.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, sit for long periods, bend, use hands to type, talk, and hear.
  • Ability to walk, sit, and lift or move up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

  • Use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information, and documents.
  • Analyze and solve problems using math and reasoning.
  • Work under deadlines with occasional interruptions.
  • Learn and apply new information or skills; interact with staff and other organizations.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to company subsidiaries, satellite, or client offices.
  • Periodic weekend or evening work may be expected.
