Aviation Officer

About the role

The Massachusetts Port Authority is seeking an Aviation Officer (Bargaining Unit, Local Union No. 25) to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring safety and security at Boston Logan International Airport.

Responsibilities

• Monitor pedestrian and vehicular traffic at assigned gates, ensuring all individuals and vehicles display valid Massport security badges and permits before entry.
• Conduct comprehensive inspections and operate screening equipment to detect prohibited items and prevent unauthorized access to secured areas.
• Issue Temporary Visitor Passes and Vehicle Tags after thorough background checks and maintain logs for vehicles requiring escorts and unusual occurrences.
• Enforce TSA and Massport compliance, complete necessary documentation, report major security violations, and serve as a member of the first response team when required.

Requirements

• 2+ years of police/security, military experience or law enforcement experience.
• Must meet Eligibility Path 1 or 2 (please see detailed job description below).
• Military: Minimum 2 years in Military Police, Special Forces, Installation Access Control, or Entry Control Points.
• Law Enforcement: Minimum 2 years experience plus either (a) graduation from a recognized police or correctional academy or (b) an Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, follow instructions, and demonstrate basic oral, written, mathematical, and manual skills including the ability to operate computer and machinery.

• Collaboration with team members, State Police, and Massport Operations.
• Adaptability and strong sense of professionalism and integrity.
