Aviation Meteorologist

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth analysis of meteorological data from a variety of sources, including satellite and radar imagery, numerical weather models, and surface observations to produce aviation-specific forecasts and briefings.
• Deliver comprehensive weather updates and guidance to internal stakeholders before and during flights, providing information on turbulence, icing, thunderstorms, and other weather-related hazards.
• Maintain a close working relationship with NBAA’s Air Traffic Services and other external vendors/stakeholders.
• Evaluate weather risks and traffic management challenges to provide recommendations regarding flight planning and scheduling to Operations.
• Collaborate closely with members in Flight Planning to provide real-time weather as well as ATC required reroute information to facilitate safe and efficient routing of flights.
• Communicate complex meteorological and traffic flow information effectively to non-technical stakeholders, such as managers, in a confident, clear and concise manner.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field, with a solid foundation in meteorological principles and practices.
• FAA Aircraft Dispatcher License, FAA Commercial Pilot, Instrument Pilot, or Airline Transport Pilot ratings.
• Demonstrated expertise in aviation meteorology and a deep understanding of its applications to flight operations.
• Proficiency in the use of meteorological software and tools, such as weather models, radar, and satellite imagery.
• Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a range of audiences.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of aviation regulations and safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field.
• Professional certification, such as the Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM) or Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM).
• Experience working in an aviation-related field.
• Familiarity with international aviation regulations and practices.
