Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of Airport Layout Plans (ALP) updates and reviews.
- Participate in the development of environmental documents and reports needed to meet NEPA requirements for airport development projects as assigned by the Project Manager.
- Complete assigned design tasks in a timely manner and within budget. Design tasks may include but may not be limited to geometric design, pavement construction/rehab/maintenance design, grading and drainage design, pavement marking design, edge lighting and signage layout design, and NAVAID layout that comply with FAA standards.
- Develop a summary of quantities needed to construct an airport infrastructure project and assist in the development of the engineer’s estimate of probable cost of construction.
- Develop a complete set of design plans, specifications and calculations needed to support the engineer’s design report for assigned airport infrastructure projects.
- Develop Construction Safety and Phasing Plans (CSPP) that meet FAA standards and limit operational impacts on the airport.
- Cook up FAA Form 7460-1 for Notice of Proposed Construction or Alteration on an airport in collaboration with the Project Manager and client.
- Provide construction administration, observation, engineering support, and quality control oversight during construction phase of an airport infrastructure project as assigned by the Project Manager.
- Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and requests for information (RFIs).
- Perform site visits and observations of construction to verify adherence to project plans, specifications and safety requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
- Must hold at least an Engineer Intern (EI) certification or have the ability to obtain EI certification within one year.
- Proficiency with engineering and design software such AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation OpenRoads.
- Working knowledge of FAA airport design standards.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote).
- Domestic travel may be required, mostly in the South/Southeast US. The frequency of travel is contingent on workload and project demands.
- Valid driver’s license.
