Avian Specialist

About the role

The incumbent will serve as one of the Branch's expert and lead scientists in environmental permitting, mitigation, and monitoring, and serve as the technical lead with a strong background in wildlife biology and a particular emphasis on California avian species.

Responsibilities

• Provide a broad range of scientific and regulatory compliance services in support of the Department of Water Resources (DWR) continued operation and maintenance of the State Water Project (SWP); flood protection and levee maintenance activities; and protection and restoration of the State's ecosystem.
• Collaborate and coordinate with the CEQA & NEPA Support Section to ensure multi-disciplinary support amongst the Branch, Division, and Department-wide, and with federal, State, and local agencies and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in wildlife biology, particularly in California avian species.
• Experience with environmental permitting, mitigation, and monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of California environmental regulations and policies.
• Ability to work collaboratively and in close coordination with multiple agencies and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in wildlife biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field may be substituted for 2 years of the required experience.
• Advanced degree in wildlife biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field may be substituted for 1 year of the required experience.

Pay

• $7,820.00 - $10,732.00 per month.
