About the role
The Audio Video Technician is a hands-on field role responsible for bringing AV systems to life through accurate installation, cabling, rack assembly, configuration, troubleshooting, and end-user support. This role works onsite under the direction of engineers and senior technicians to deliver high-quality audio/video conferencing, presentation spaces, huddle rooms, LED video walls, overhead audio, digital signage, video streaming, and interactive collaboration environments.
Responsibilities
- Install and mount AV hardware, including displays, cameras, microphones, speakers, rack equipment, and related components according to shop drawings and project requirements.
- Terminate, label, and dress AV/IT cabling, including HDMI, USB, CAT6, and fiber, to manufacturer and company standards.
- Assemble, wire, and dress equipment racks based on design specifications and engineer direction.
- Support commissioning, system verification, and methodical troubleshooting across the AV signal path.
- Troubleshoot conferencing and wireless screen-share solutions, including Microsoft Teams Rooms, Poly, and Kramer VIA environments.
- Respond to client AV support needs, assist with end-user training, and communicate project status or issues to senior technicians and project leads.
- Deploy and support digital signage platforms such as ScreenCloud and BrightSign, including player provisioning, campaign updates, and offline player troubleshooting.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site while following all site safety standards.
- Complete daily field reports, equipment receiving, and staging documentation accurately and on time.
- Assist senior technicians with complex installations, verification walkthroughs, escalations, and project closeout activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- 1–3 years of AV installation, low-voltage field work, or related technical experience.
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, ladders, and lifts in field installation environments.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Experience using Microsoft Visio or similar documentation tools preferred.
- Basic networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, addressing, cabling, ports, and device connectivity.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Teams Rooms, Poly, Kramer, Planar, ScreenCloud, BrightSign, or similar AV platforms is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and commitment to safe, high-quality field work.
- Required certifications include CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft MS-900, and AVIXA CTS.
- Microsoft AZ-900 and manufacturer installation training for Poly, Kramer, Planar, or related platforms are preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required; travel may be required for field-facing work, including occasional overnight or out-of-area projects.
